Winter in Lancashire

Season’s greetings from Red Rose Collections

To celebrate the season, we have brought together a small selection of photographs from Red Rose Collections featuring winter scenes from around the county across a century.

What will this winter bring for Lancashire? We wonder if any of these scenes from years past will be repeated or if climate change means that some of this weather will not be experienced again?

We would like to take this opportunity to thank all the Red Rose Collections visitors who have contacted us throughout the year via the ‘Comment’ button to provide additional information or correct our mistakes. Your knowledge and enthusiasm is an invaluable resource assisting us with ‘filling in the gaps’ in the history depicted in our photograph collections.

Speaking of enthusiasm, we’d also like to send out our heartfelt thanks to all our volunteers. We still have a number of volunteers who have been working hard from home through lockdown to improve the collections and add new material to the historic photographs and newspaper index. Without their commitment this project would not be possible.
